After meeting with the Telluride Medical Center Foundation (TMCF) and Telluride Regional Medical Center (TMC), Ron and Joyce Allred presented the foundation with a check for $50,000 to support and sustain the medical center. They also endorsed the mill levy initiative coming to voters in November, and the effort to build a new medical facility at Society Turn.
“We are so grateful to have the Allreds, the original stewards of our community, supporting our Medical Center and Foundation,” said Clifford Hansen, TMCF Board President.
The Allred’s are the visionaries who arrived in Telluride when the mines were closing and redirected the community focus to tourism. They turned the ski operation into a world-class resort, built the gondola, incorporated the town of Mountain Village, and established our airport. Ron Allred served on the Hospital District Board and played a leading role in getting Genesee to donate the land for the new facility at Society Turn.
“The Medical Center is the most important issue in Telluride affecting every person whether visiting or a full-time resident. I encourage the entire community to join us in supporting their efforts,” said Allred. “We all need to support the Med Center today and until the new facility is complete. It is the last and most critical need in our community.”
Unfortunately, TMC is not immune to a national healthcare crisis that is impacting ours and most regional medical centers. TMC is operating at a $1.6 million deficit. “Our objective for now is making sure we can sustain our clinic and services so we can be there when the community needs us most,” shared emergency physician and interim CEO, Diana Koelliker, M.D.
