Missing the Nugget Theatre and Need a Movie Fix? Free Screening March 11

Telluride might be lacking a movie theatre but thanks to the “Film for Thought” series, the community still has the opportunity to view quality films. The third and final documentary in the series, Of Medicine and Miracles, will be shown Tuesday, March 11 at the Telluride Innovation Center (formerly the Depot) from 5:30–7:30 PM.

This free, community screening presented by Telluride Science, Original Thinkers, and the Telluride Medical Center Foundation, offers an inspiring look at the groundbreaking fight against cancer. Of Medicine and Miracles chronicles the groundbreaking journey of pioneering immunologist and oncologist Dr. Carl June in his quest to cure cancer, focusing on the inspiring story of five-year-old Emily Whitehead. This film is directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Ross Kauffman.

The documentary provides an intimate look into Dr. June’s innovative work in immunotherapy, highlighting the challenges and triumphs in developing CAR T-cell therapy—a treatment that reprograms a patient’s own immune cells to target cancer. The film showcases the profound impact of this therapy on patients like Emily, offering hope and insight into the future of cancer treatment.

Following the screening, attendees will have the unique opportunity to engage in a live conversation via Zoom with both Dr. Carl June and director Ross Kauffman. The discussion will be moderated by David Holbrooke, Executive Director of Original Thinkers.

“With the Innovation Center as our home, we’re thrilled to be able to partner with other nonprofits and open our doors to the community for engaging programs that inspire fresh ideas and creative thinking,” said Executive Director Mark Kozak. “Partnering with Original Thinkers and the Telluride Medical Center  was a natural fit as the film explores the intersection of science, medicine, and innovation.”

This event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 5 pm and the movie starts at 5:30 pm. Donations to Telluride Science, Original Thinkers and the Telluride Medical Center Foundation are welcome.
